Mariel Butan came to visit southwest Montana in February 2017 and has been living in Gallatin County ever since. Her love for horses began before she can remember, and she is a true believer in their ability to heal, teach, and empower any human who is willing to trust and build a relationship with them. Mariel has worked in education and nonprofit management for over 10 years, and she is thrilled to combine her experience with her passion for horses to serve Windhorse as the Board Treasurer.
Prior to moving to Montana, Mariel lived in Washington, DC, where she volunteered as an exercise rider for the U.S. Park Police Mounted Division. Mariel has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Miami, where she specialized in education, psychology, and film (and rode for the Equestrian Team). When she’s not working or volunteering, Mariel is usually on an adventure, horseback riding, skiing, hiking, kayaking, making her way down a local list of “must eat” dishes, or some combination of the above!
